Summer 2003. I remember remarking to myself that these trees looked forgotten and sad, isolated by their environment of pavement and cars. It was a very hot day of summer and I was walking slowly on the sidewalk thinking that ignoring these trees was easy, even for someone travelling on foot.

Winter 2004. I do not know when the trees were wrapped but this powerful image provoked my curiosity and imagination. I take heart in the care given to these newly transplanted trees and start to make photographic records, une espèce d’arboretum du boulevard.

On-going journal work includes imaging the growth of selected trees along the boulevard and recording the changes in their environment over a prolonged period of time starting in 2003. Mine is a highly unscientific undertaking.
